heal from trauma

/begin to thrive

Trauma. The word itself carries a lot of weight. Most of us have experienced some kind of trauma in our lives. The way in which we process trauma is unique to the individual and varies depending on the type of trauma we have endured as well as the existence of supportive or protective factors in our lives.

Little “t” traumas are events that cause distress in our lives and disrupt our functioning, such as:

  • Emotional abuse

  • Non-life threatening injuries

  • Loss of relationships

  • Bullying

  • Racism

Big “T” traumas are significant events that lead to feelings of hopelessness. helplessness, and often lead to the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), such as:

  • Physical and sexual abuse

  • Life threatening experiences and injuries

  • Experience of a natural disaster

  • Terrorism

  • Racism

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is an evidenced based treatment for PTSD and typically consists of 9-12 sessions depending on severity of symptoms and commitment to this work. CPT focuses more so on exploring and challenging your thoughts and beliefs about yourself and the world around you as a result of your trauma, rather than re- experiencing the traumatic event itself.

Healing from trauma involves a collaborative approach and does not involve a one size fits all approach. Together we will create a plan that feels safe and supportive for your individual needs.
