recover from your eating disorder
/reclaim your body
When disordered eating and diet culture has become so normalized in our society, it can sometimes be challenging to identify when struggles with food and body image have entered the realm of disordered behavior. It becomes easy to justify the weight you “need” to lose, the new diet you’re on, or the things you’d like to change about your appearance.
So where is the line between diet culture, disordered eating, and eating disorders? How do you distinguish when wanting to eat “healthy” or be “healthy” becomes problematic? If you are looking for answers, consider the following.
Do you..
Spend a lot of time thinking about food or body?
Find yourself consistently dissatisfied with the way you look?
Obsess about what you eat or how much you eat?
Restrict certain food groups?
Struggle with binge eating?
Compensate with behaviors such as exercise or purging?
If you answered “yes” to some or most of these questions, then it might be beneficial to take a deeper dive into your relationship with food and body. Together, we will debunk the myths around diet culture, standards of beauty, and move towards a Health at Every Size (HAES) approach through the principles of respect, awareness, and self-compassion. In doing so, we will explore:
Ineffectiveness and dangers of diet culture
Return to Intuitive Eating (listening to and honoring our natural hunger/fullness cues)
Natural diversity in body shape and size
Important contribution of social, emotional, and spiritual factors to health and happiness
The path to recovery is not linear, and that’s ok. We will work towards building your support system to ensure you are not walking this path alone, allowing you the space to reclaim your body, your relationship with food, and ultimately your life.
